However far away … I will always love you

Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again

Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away, I will always love you
However long I stay, I will always love you
Whatever words I say, I will always love you
I will always love you

The beach of Love

Surprisingly I have watched the movie 50 First Dates several times but never know about this song – I was completely blown away after hearing it and Thanks to Elizabeth – my sweetheart for that (again).

It’s a simple love song by a american Reggae Rock band 311. The original song is by the English alternative rock band “The Cure”.

Enjoy the song with these photographs and don’t forget to drop a note. Thanks for stopping by.

So many faces … So many races

So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse

You wanna buy some ?

A different perspective

In my older posts I have mentioned about buying a new lens. Though I prefer prime lens than the zoom one and If you ask me why ? my quick answer will be its fast & sharp. However recently I felt my 40 mm prime is way too long to fit the story in my frame.

In last couple of months I was looking into different wide angle lens – my first preference was always Nikon but most of the time preference and affordability does not match and on those cases affordability wins (Well I guess most of the time). I choose Tokina 11- 16 F2.8 DX II. Bought it from Hildalgo, Quaipo, Manila.

The photos came out very sharp in the middle of the frame but has a good amount of distortion at the corner of the frame which is acceptable for a wide angle lens like this.

The best thing I liked about this lens is that you can capture a lot of things in your frame (say the background, the atmosphere etc.) which gives you a different perspective all together.

I would call below photo as “Busy Market”. The aim was to capture the frame on how the wet market looks like when lots of people are walking, buying and selling. So even though I was hand holding my camera I tried to take a long exposure (about 2 sec.) just to get the panning effect in order to show the busy atmosphere of the Quiapo.

Busy Market

Now the next one is funny. It was very hot and humid at that time of the year, if I can remember it correctly it was around mid May and I was just smoking beside a vegetable shop and noticed that two dogs are eating “Ladies Finger” (a.k.a. “Okra”). Well that’s a first time for me and felt like I should capture this candid moment :).

It was late afternoon and while going back home, I found this guy is sitting in front of a showroom of men’s inner wear. He was calculating something and I found this photograph very intuitive. I noticed the catch line written beside him was “Satisfying the human need for comfort”, may be he is one of those people who is working day and night to make our life more comfortable.

Now this photo I took and didn’t even ask for permission. Well while taking the street photos some photographers feel that zoom lens is the right lens to carry, it has it’s own pros and con but I don’t want to go into those details now (You can always Google it). I took the below photo while walking through the side walks and liked with the combination of dark red background with the two guys sitting wearing white shirts. The color came out pretty nice, what do you think ?

The seller & his friend

Tokina 11-16 2.8 lens it pretty sharp and renders good color but for my entry level DSLR body I felt it’s very heavy. I always like lightweight camera for street photography which is easy to hold and carry. But the truth is it’s really felt awesome in my hand, very sturdy, fast focus and grand focal length to work with.

Nikon 10-24mm F3.5 – 4.5 is also very nice lens, but considering the price point and the sharpness I think Tokina is better. If you are planning to buy a wide angle lens, Tokina 12-28 F4 also worth a try.

I guess I am not a great reviewer of the lens, so please don’t consider this as a review of Tokina 11-16 F2.8. There are plenty of websites where you can get the review in detail. This is just my opinion on Tokina 11-16 as a street photography lens. It’s great lens for landscape photography also because of its focal length. In future I will post landscape photos taken using this lens.

Hope you liked the photos. Waiting to hear from you 🙂

A street walk at Quiapo

Last few days the life has become so boring and photo less. I just wanted to get out of my place and buy few accessories for my camera. The best camera accessories you can get at most affordable price in Manila is in Quiapo. If you are a photographer either be professional, amateur or hobbyist you must visit Quiapo. For those who doesn’t know Quiapo is one of the most notorious place in Manila, Philippines. So if you are going for street photography, there is a huge possibility that you will come back home empty handed. Full of snatchers, pick pockets and anti social people and moreover if you are a foreigner things can get worse.

A view in Wet Market

But if you have a reliable source you can get the best price whether you are buying your memory card or any kind of lens. I took my chance and visited Quiapo with a Filipino friend. Traveling with a local surely give you good amount of confidence to walking around and take some photos in the busy wet market of Quiapo.

My friend wanted to buy a Tokina 100mm and I was looking for a wide angle. While visiting camera shops I was wandering around in the busy wet market of Quiapo. A superb place for capturing candid shots.

Oh My God

While my friend is inside the shop looking and trying the lens he wants to buy, I was outside walking around and took some shots of locals. Few came good, few did not.
If you are a foreigner and wants to do street photography at Quiapo I would suggest to walk with a local and also be conscious about your wallet, phone and the bag if you are carrying any. I put all my stuff inside the backpack and keep it in front of me. I will also suggest you do the same.

All the photos taken using my Nikon 40mm in aperture priority mode. No flash used. Due to various color of the shades in market the light was very uneven, which is kinda difficult to take the photos.

Trio Thoughts

Surprisingly all the people were very kind and curious and I love the whole atmosphere of the place. Most of the time I did not ask for posing, as my aim was to capture their natural expression and hurdle of their daily life. But out of the few words I know in Tagalog, I said “Salamat Kuya / Salamat Ate” ( which means Thanks big brother/ Thanks big sister in Tagalog) to almost everyone. Most of the photos I have captured I converted in the black & white in post processing for the shots with candid moments and kept few photos in colored just to show the how colorful the market place was. I Feel so excited about this post. Hopefully we you will like it too.

Enjoy the photos.

Little Discovery 3

Beach Boys of Laiya

On January 31, 2014, me and few of my friend planned a sudden trip to Laiya, Batangas. It’s a one of the thousand beach of Batangas. This post is more of little discoveries in the beach then the beach itself.

Don't let me go

Most of the time I was busy visiting the beach and walking around the Blue Coral beach. While returning back to home just before evening came through these sweet kids. They were flying kites. I tried to take some natural photo of them, but when they noticed me they are bit quizzical to see “Why the hell in this guy is taking our photos !!!”. I tried to talk to them with some chocolate greetings (Now-a-days I am carrying these).

Go away

I don’t know much Tagalog but somehow was able to ask them officially for a photo. Even though I am kinda interrupting their play, still they agreed to pose for me.

Well ...

I was really excited to see the result when I came back from the trip. I liked the result. Let me know your view also.

Enjoy the photos.
